MEH FAMILY HOLDINGS

This website is a tribute to our very interesting and diverse family history. Edward Bibbey chased the South African gold rush and ended up farming its lands. Bibbey's Hoek, where he sold mining equipment, is named after him. Bernard Hallick received the top engineering scholarship in South Africa and was the chief engineer for building of many of its iconic bridges. Harold Madderson was captured by the Japanese in World War II. The movie Bridge On The River Kwa tells the story of his regiment's ordeals as prisonors of war.

The investments held by the family aim to uphold the family values and ideals and establish a legacy for family members of future generations to carry forward.

The Hallicks

The Hallick Family originates from the city of London where a young engineer was born that would later build some of South Africa's icon train brdges
Grandad Hallick, Bernard Hallick, was born near the river banks of the Thames River in Greenwich, England. His family left to South Africa at a young age. He studied Engineering at the Univeristy of the Witwatersrand in Johanessburg. He achieved the Hengings Genings Scolarship, the top Engineering Scholarship in the country.

After finishing university we joined the South African Railways who were busy trying to join all the major cities by railway. Bernard Hallick was the chief engineer on the railroad between George and Knysna in the Garden Route of South Africa. The bridges he engineered are seen on the pictures below.
A one stage the Family farm in Knysna, known as Westford farm extended from the banks of the river all the way to Millwood.
